The Objective of forming Indian Academy of Data Protection Professionals (IADPP) is to provide a platform over which all professionals engaged in the industry revolving around the concept of “Data Protection” and based in India can come together for knowledge sharing and development of their own community as well as the Data Protection Environment in the country.
We are aware that India is a “Global Data Processing Hub” and data processing activities are the bread and butter business for many companies large, small and tiny. The advent of data protection laws in different parts of the globe and the media hype that surrounds such laws have placed many hurdles in the smooth conduct of data processing activities in India.
Very shortly India will be augmenting ITA 2000/8 with its own Data Protection laws both sectoral specific laws such as DISHA2018 as well as a more generic proposition under the Srikrishna Committee’s recommendations.
These will bring in several challenges to the community of professionals who would be involved in the data protection activities. Such professionals may or may not carry designations of a “Data Protection Officer” or “Information Security Manager” or “ITA 2008 compliance officer” etc. But they may be involved in similar functions such as preserving the Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability, Authenticity and Non Repudiability of information.
This association is meant for all such professionals to come together and pool their resourced and enrich themselves by mutual cooperation.
In pursuance of this larger goal, the defined objectives would be as follows:
- To contribute by any lawful means to the development of a Secure Information Society by building an empowered community of Knowledgeable, Efficient and Ethical Data Protection Professionals.
- To enhance the intrinsic Value and Worth of the profession of Data Protection Professionals who are directly or indirectly engaged in the activity of generating, managing, preserving and protecting information.
- To bring harmony in the pursuance of Civil Rights of individuals such as Privacy and Freedom of Expression along with the Right to Information and Right to Cyber Security.
In other words, Security, Prosperity and Harmony shall be the guiding factors for this organization.
